ROOKIES
I finished watching “ROOKIES,” which was based on a manga of the same name, recently and it’s much higher than my expectation. Before viewing, I think this drama would be something like “Gokusen,” whose season 3 was broadcasted in the same period but with much lower ratings than season 2. Immediately after finishing watching the first episode, I felt that “ROOKIES” could be something really special as the acting, storylines and action sequences were superior. Week after week, Teacher Kawato slowly touched the hearts of the bad students and rebuilt the baseball team that was suspended from playing due to participation in a brawl last summer. Kawato was extremely optimistic and never gave up. As a literature teacher, Kawato always yelled out famous quotes to encourage the students. His most famous phase must be “to chase your dream.” Meanwhile, Kawato was also extremely funny since he volunteered to be the coach of the baseball team but he was a layman and didn't know any rules in baseball. However, he was super hardworking and studied and practiced at night to make up the ground. Under his leadership and management, the students were influenced and improved a lot both physically and mentally. They grew from disobedient students to true baseball players and were chasing the dream to complete in Koshien. By the way, the main theme, Kizeki, by GReeeN was an excellent choice for this drama. On the other hand, there was one thing that I didn’t really like about “ROOKIES” was the ending. I thought that’s too long and it’s kind of like the famous manga “SLAM DUNK” because the teams eventually lost after their dramatic wins and that made the victories insignificant. Also, the drama ended in suspense when it showed the sight of one's back in the final seconds to hint that there would be a sp and a movie afterwards. Overall, “ROOKIES” was about baseball, dream, and friendship, and it was super hot-blooded. Do not hesitate to watch because of its low ratings!
