Green Dam Girl

What kind of stupid software is that? It took $40M RMB to develop and was originally scheduled to be pre-installed on all PCs (Macs?) sold in China starting from July 1st (though the deadline was pushed back indefinitely...) Basically, it's a censorship program filtering "harmful materials" such as pornography (including pink color pigs and Mao Zedong?) and politically sensitive issues (June 4th, Falungong, etc) "in order to build a green, healthy and harmonious online environment..." Well, it turned out that it's just a piece of cake to crack it and ironically became a great inspiration fueling Chinese ACG culture...

New Home Two Weeks Anniversary

After two weeks, things finally settled down a little bit and thanks god, no more heavy lifting! For the past two weekends, moving became our routine and exercise… though I didn't feel I built up any muscle at all. We cleared our basement bit by bit using the old car from Uncle Fong and packed most of the stuff in boxes but the difficult ones were furniture like mattresses, beds, desks, tables, etc. Fortunately, my brother figured out how to remove the middle seats literately seconds before we started moving. If the seats weren't off, we'd need to call our relative, which would turn out to be a bad idea as he's so into his own world that he'd never showed up to help. The moving hasn't been simple and we're often exhausted at nights. It took approximately 10-15 trips to finish moving all the stuff and since I wasn't so used to driving at that moment, I always became part of the cargo and sat at the back. Well, it did force me to practice driving later and now I do can drive rather slowly and carelessly. The date we actually slept at our new home was June 6th, in which we successfully relocated our beds by ourselves. Our beds were actually a piece of cake and the worst thing we needed to move was the TV, which was an old CRT and seemed to weight over 100 lbs. My brother actually made fun that we're consuming our lives and souls when we tried to carry the TV and walked up the stairs. It'd be easier if it's a new thin plasma HDTV. After everything was moved, we then started unpacking. We had a penthouse so we put stuff that we didn't use frequently upstairs. My room's the largest room of the three and was about the same size of the living room so I did feel there was too much space. By the way, my bedroom's close to be a square but due to the weird positioning of the cabinet and heat, it's tricky to place my bed against the wall and at last, it's kind of in the center of the room and practically cut my room into half. Whatever… That night, I was stupid enough to leave my windows open and I was constantly awaken by the noisy cars and pedestrians passing by. Luckily, the next day was Sunday, and I closed all the windows and had a good sleep the second night. Besides cleaning, unpacking and sleeping, there's virtually nothing else we'd do during the first week because we didn't have any phone, TV and Internet services. We did leave our old computer in our old basement, which was still hooked up and we occasionally got there to get in touch to the world. To kill time at our new home, we tried to watch the TV shows we piled up in the past, mainly the Terminator… (What a good sleeping pill it turned out to be Zzz) We finally had our phone, TV and Internet back last week when the cable company installed the equipments for us and since then, we've been living happily ever after… In the end, moving really cost us a lot of money and time but it'd be a good thing if everyone could live comfortably above the ground.
